INTRODUCTION

Securing our climate and energy future

The Greens/EFA make policies to prevent climate change from getting even worse as its consequences continue to become increasingly visible for everyone.

We want Europe to shift to sustainable sources of energy and to reduce total resource consumption. Already today it is technically feasible to shift from fossil fuel dependency to renewable energy, while abandoning nuclear power and leaving shale gas in the ground.

This energy transition would constitute an important investment in the future of Europe. It would affect all sectors from industry to agriculture and transport and could stabilise economies in the crisis countries while creating millions of jobs.

In this effort we have pushed the EU to take the lead in the international fight against climate change.
