INTRODUCTION

For global solidarity and peace

The European Union is one of the most important political and economic powers in the world. We want it to use its power responsibly. The EU should play a more active role at its doorstep and in the world, in promoting peace and in preventing the need for military intervention. It must make the respect of human rights its guiding principle.

In trade negotiations the Greens/EFA defend public goods, human rights and environmental sustainability like no other group in the European Parliament.

A common asylum system could overcome the shameful situation in detention camps and coastlines along the Mediterranean Sea. It should be humane and efficient. Full citizenship rights should be attributed to all regular immigrants.
