The situation in Gaza
Prompted by renewed hostilities and rocket attacks between Israel and the Palestinian territories, Parliament decided to voice its concern about the situation, stressing both Israel's right to protect its population against missile attacks and its need to act proportionately and protect civilian lives.
The legal status of the Palestinian territories remains one of the main underlying causes of the conflict.
What was the Greens' position?
The Greens support the Palestinian bid to gain observer status at the United Nations.
We therefore aimed to amend ParliamentÂ’s Resolution accordingly.
Did other MEPs accept the Greens' position?
Which points did the Greens lose?
The Greens were generally satisfied with the result.
Since Parliament's opinion on foreign affairs is not legally binding, conflict over issues in this domain is rare.
